The Ondo State Deputy Governor, Honourable Agboola Ajayi, has announced his resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement released by his Media Adviser, Allen Sowore, Ajayi said his decision was to fulfill the wishes of the people of Ondo, who had called on him to “give hope to the hopeless and provide credible and purposeful leadership in our dear state.”

The Deputy Governor implored his supporters it remain steadfast and committed, saying he would soon reveal his next line of action.

Ajayi had left the All Peoples Congress (APC) in for the PDP in June. He contested in the party’s primary elections, but lost out to Eyitayo Jegede.

Many expect the Deputy Governor will join the Zenith Labour Party, where he will be the party’s standard bearer in the forthcoming Ondo Gubernatorial elections.

The Ondo State Chairman of the ZLP, Mr. Joseph Akinlaja, confirmed today that Ajayi had been cleared to contest for the Ondo State Governorship on the party’s platform.

According to him, the Ondo State Deputy Governor would formally announce his admission into the party later this week.
