One dead, two injured as building collapses during demolition in Lagos

One person has died while two others sustained injuries after a building collapsed during demolition in Lagos State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday at No. 42, Governors Road, Aboru, prompting the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) to deploy its Alpha Eagle Response Team from the Cappa-Oshodi unit at 12:56 a.m.

Emergency responders were deployed to the scene following the collapse, with rescue operations conducted to search for anyone who might have been trapped under the rubble.

One person was reportedly recovered dead from the site, while two others were rescued with injuries and taken for medical attention.

The circumstances surrounding the collapse were not immediately clear.

Authorities are expected to investigate the incident to determine what led to the collapse and whether safety procedures were followed during the demolition.

Building collapses remain a recurring concern in Lagos, with state authorities repeatedly warning property owners, developers and contractors to comply with approved building and demolition regulations.
