 One dies, two rescued from collapsed building in Lagos community

One person, Joseph Ilesa MI, 25 years, has died from a collapsed 2-storey building at 97, Lagos Road, Haruna, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The incident occurred on October 18, 2021, around 10 pm. Two persons were rescued alive and were taken to Ikorodu General Hospital for medical attention.

NEMA South West spokesman, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, said on Tuesday that two persons were injured, a male and a female. He added that they were currently at Ikorodu General Hospital receiving medical treatment.

He said: “Immediately the incidence occurred, the residents within the area mobilised themselves to carry out initial rescue activities.

“Though fire service and police responded, they are unable to do much due to unavailability of equipment to lift the rumble on the suspected location of the trapped victims.

“One body has been recovered. The emergency phase of search and rescue has ended with the evacuation of all debris to ground zero with no additional body recovered.

“So far, two were rescued alive with injuries and one body recovered.”
