Opposition parties throw weight behind APC’s Abiru as Lagos East by-election nears

By Emmanuel Awosika

About 58 political parties, under the aegis of Coalition of Political Parties in Lagos State (COPPILS), have declared support for Tokunbo Abiru, standard-bearer for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming Lagos East Senatorial by-election.

The coalition also threw its weight behind the Saheed Obafemi, the APC candidate in the Kosofe Constituency 11 by-election.

The group advised Lagosians to support the two candidates in the elections set to hold on the weekend.

Some of the parties include the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Alliance (AA), Peoples Republican Party( PRP), New Nigeria Peoples Party(NNPP), Alliance for Democracy (AD), AGA, MMN and NPN.

Addressing newsmen, the group’s convener, Akinola Obadiah, said the parties had unanimously agreed to support both candidates to give the APC the opportunity to provide purposeful leadership and development in Lagos.

Obadiah warned Lagosians against engaging in nefarious behaviour during and after the election.

He also charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the elections are free, fair and credible.

The COPPILS leader also urged the Tokunbo Abiru to fight for Lagos interests when he gets elected to the National Assembly.

“We also advise Femi Saheed to replicate the good works of Tunde Braimoh and address the plights of women and youths in his constituency,” he added.
