₦1m Rent Debt: Landlord threatens to eject Osun Council from office building over N1m rent debt

By Dayo Badmus,

The owner of a property rented as the secretariat of Boripe North Local Council Development Authority, Iree, Alhaji Kadiri Adepoju has given the Council an ultimatum of seven days to vacate the building and pay a sum of N1,000,000 outstanding rent or face prosecution.

Alhaji Adepoju gave the ultimatum in a document issued by his Lawyer, Dr. D. A. Ariyoosu.

The apartment was secured in 2016 when the LCDA was established by the administration of former Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

The property is a very big house and was cheaply given to the LCDA by Alhaji Adepoju.

Boripe North is to  maintain the property, and pay electricity bill.

However, the council allegedly reneged on this with the property not properly maintained and huge bills being piled up particularly electricity bills.

This prompted the landlord to take a decisive action leading to the ultimatum.

Alhaji Adepoju said the Council should vacate the apartment, pay the outstanding rent and ensure the electricity bill is paid up to date.

Part of the document reads, “Your Authority is to pay the accumulated arrears consumption bills up to date and effect necessary repairs before delivering up possession of the aforesaid premises.

“It is our hope that your authority would avail itself of the opportunity of paying the rent and deliver up possession and avoid the unpalatable consequences of litigation with its attendant publicity and embarrassment.
