Oyo 2027: Adelabu clarifies stance on APC, ex-aide’s defection

Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed speculation linking him to the defection of his former aide, Ajiboye Akande, from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Akande reportedly led APC supporters from various local government areas of Oyo State to the APM during a rally held at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Monday.

However, Adelabu, in a statement issued by his media office, said Akande was no longer his personal assistant and had no official, political or representational relationship with him.

He said their working relationship ended following differences over their political alignments after Akande chose a different political direction.

Adelabu also clarified that he remains a member of the APC and has no intention of leaving the party.

He said his disagreement with aspects of the Oyo State governorship nomination process was based on concerns about transparency and legitimacy, rather than an indication that he planned to defect.

The former minister added that Akande’s defection and political activities were personal decisions and should not be attributed to him.

Adelabu further said his governorship ambition was not a do-or-die affair, adding that his primary interest was the opportunity to serve the people of Oyo State.
