Oyo Assembly summons FERMA Director over non-completion of federal roads

The Oyo State House of Assembly has summoned the Zonal Director of Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA).

The Zonal Director was summoned over the non-completion of some federal roads in the State.

The Assembly, during its plenary on Tuesday, queried the non-completion of rehabilitation work on some federal roads in Ogbomoso and other parts of the State.

The query followed a motion jointly sponsored by Sanjo Adedoyin (Ogbomoso South) and Bimbo Oladeji (Ogbomoso North).

The House then asked the Zonal Director of FERMA to appear before it on July 15th this year.

The House summoned the Zonal Director in order to explain what the agency has been doing in the state since November 5, 2019 when it last appeared at the plenary

The lawmakers also called on FERMA to expedite work on the ongoing rehabilitation of its roads across the State.

They also appealed to Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to complete the Ogbomoso section of the Ibadan-Oyo-Ogbomoso-Ilorin dual carriage Expressway.

Speaker of the House, Adebo Ogundoyin, while addressing his colleagues, said it was unfortunate that most federal roads were no longer motorable in the State.

“We cannot overestimate the importance of good roads in any community. They link cities, towns and communities as well as ease transportation of people and goods.

“I think the Federal Ministry and the Maintenance Agency need to do more to put these roads in good shape,” he said.
