OYO GOVT TO ENGAGE FG ON INTERVENTION FOR COVID 19, AS MAKINDE SPEAKS FROM ISOLATION

Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde has assured residents of Oyo state that his government will continue to engage the federal government and demand whatever is due to the state, especially in the area of interventions to cushion the effect of corona virus pandemic ravaging the world.

Makinde, while granting telephone interview on the network of state owned radio stations on Wednesday from his isolation centre, blamed the seemingly neglect of Oyo state in federal government interventions on the COVID 19, despite being the third on the log of the states with COVID 19 record.

The governor said non-inclusion of Oyo in the total lockdown declared by President Buahri could be due to the lopsidedness of our federal structure, “we found out that people expected you to come and bow in Abuja before things are done, however, we are engaging them, ‘baba ti o ba mo gba,omo o mo muwa’, (if as a father, you do not cultivate the habit of giving, as a son, we shall demand for what is due to us ) this is the situation.

To the governor, self reliance of the pace setter state is a project he committed himself to,

“Oyo state is bigger than some African nations and it should work out a good modality to stand on its feet”and this is what we are working towards.” he boasted.

He hinted that Oyo state government will soon commence testing the people with the newly acquired instrument for COVID 19 as nothing less than ten thousand people will undergo it within the shortest possible time.

On the measure put in place to alleviate the effect of the current partial lockdown of the state the governor disclosed that government is currently working on a palliative measure which can only embrace widows, orphans, jobless and artisans in the state to cushion the effect of stay at home order.

He clearly stressed that the government will continue to review decisions based on expert advice from time to time as situations demand but emphasized that the 7pm-6am curfew was still in force advising the people to listen to government directives so that we can all battle the virus together.

On his state of health, having tested positive to the virus, Engr. Makinde said he has with him a thermometer to test himself regularly, he demonstrated it publicly on the telephone conversation which read 36.6 suggesting a low temperature. He allayed the fears of the people and expressed hope that he will soon be on his desk to continue his work.
