Singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has stirred reactions on social media after questioning the relevance of Nigeria’s indigenous languages while defending his children’s ability to speak French.

The controversy began after the former P-Square member shared a post from Paris, expressing admiration for how fluently his children speak French and suggesting he might consider buying a home in the French capital.

A social media user then asked whether his children could also speak Igbo, prompting Okoye to respond by questioning the practical benefits of Nigerian languages.

His remarks quickly generated mixed reactions online, with some users arguing that indigenous languages are vital for preserving culture and identity, while others maintained that parents have the right to decide how to raise their children.

As criticism mounted, the singer insisted that the choice of languages his children learn is a private family matter.

He also urged critics to focus on their own lives, maintaining that his family’s decisions should not be subject to public scrutiny.
