 Police arrest 3 robbery suspects during operation

Ogun State Police Command has arrested three members of a robbery gang terrorising some communities in Ogun State.

The suspects were arrested on November 12, 2020 while engaging in robbery activity at Iju Ota area of the State.

The suspects are identified by the police as Bamidele Oluwashina, a 31years old man; Adebowale Kehinde, 32 years and Oluwasegun Abayomi.

According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspects were arrested following a distress call received by the police at Onipanu Divisional Police Headquarters around 9:30pm that the robbers had invaded Iju Love Bus stop and Tipper Garage, dispossessing people of their valuables with dangerous weapons.

According to Oyeyemi, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Bamidele Ishola Job took to action by mobilising his team who engaged the ribbers in gun duel.

Subsequently, one of the robbers was arrested at the scene while others ran away as the police overpowered them.

He said two others were later arrested while trying to escape in tricycle with the help of the members of the community.

He explained: “The entire area was cordoned off while police intensified search for other members of the gang with the help of members of the community, two other members of the gang were sighted trying to escape in a tricycle and they were promptly arrested.

“One Tosin Ajayi who was matcheted on the head by the hoodlums was quickly taken to the hospital by the police for medical treatment.”

The police spokesperson said one cut to size locally made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation.

He appealed to general public not to allow cultists to fester in their area as they were associated with all forms of violent crime.

He also assured the people of the state their safety, saying the Command Violent Crime Intervention Squad is ready to combat any violent crime in the state.
