 Police arrest driver of truck loaded with ammunition, Anambra

Police have arrested driver of a truck loaded with ammunition on Sunday in Onitsha, Anambra State.
It was gathered that the truck fell into a ditch and spilled it’s content of live bullets on the road.
While the police were able to apprehend the driver, his conductor managed to flee.
According to the Punch, a source said, “The incident occurred on the Awka Road. It was discovered by those going to the church early in the morning. It has attracted heavy security presence to the road.
“The truck, a Mercedes Benz 911 model, was moving the goods out of Onitsha when the driver lost control and fell into a gutter.”
Another source statedthat the truck fell around 5am.
“The driver and his conductor tried to quickly remove the contents of the truck, but they could not do much before daybreak when policemen arrived at scene and saw that the truck was carrying live bullets.
“The policemen called for a backup and arrested the truck driver while his conductor escaped,” he added.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ikeng Tochukwu said, “I have not been briefed about the incident. I will get back to you when I get the details.”
A top security man, however said that the army had come to the state police command to take the ammunition, Punch reported.
The source said, “I heard a tipper was brought in by the army and the live bullets were taken away.”
