By Emmanuel Awosika

Police in Cross River have arrested a group of suspected drug dealers alongside some cultists in the state.

Reportedly, the group, before their arrest, sold and distributed various illegal substances including marijuana, tramadol, and so on.

In a press statement, the State Commissioner of Police, Abdulkadir Jimoh, said the drug peddlers were arrested at different locations in Ogoja and Calabar areas of Cross River State.

According to him, two dealers, identified as Innocent Ezekiel and Udo Peter, were arrested along with 11 others at their hideout in Federal Housing, Calabar after a tip-off.

He also revealed that some nine men were arrested operatives of Ogoja Police Command in Ogoja for allegedly dealing drugs after they were caught with large amounts of Indian hemp and tramadol.

In another police raid, five suspected cultists were arrested at a hotel in Ikom following a tip-off.

He said suspects were holding a meeting when the police arrived, adding that they had all confessed to being cultists.

The Commissioner indicated the cultists would be arraigned while the drug dealers would be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for prosecution.

He further warned anyone from engaging in criminal activity in Cross River State as the police was “poised to weed out crime and anyone involved in any nefarious activity.”

He also called on residents of Cross River State to assist the police in its anti-crime efforts by sharing valuable information that will lead to reduction of crime in the state.
