 Police rescue kidnapped Osun Passengers

The Police Command in Osun on Tuesday said that it had rescued four commuters reportedly kidnapped on Tafida Imesi-Ile and Ilare/Esa-Odo Roads on Sunday and Monday respectively.

Gunmen at about 1.45pm on Monday, had ambushed the Osun State-bound commercial bus conveying passengers from Ekiti State and took the passengers into the forest.

The command’s Spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, in a statement in Osogbo said that a combined team of policemen and local security outfits carried out the rescue operation.

Opalola, however, said one of the local security operatives lost his life during a gun duel with the kidnappers, while another sustained injury from gunshots.

”The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Olawale Olokode, psc in his frantic efforts and the support from other security outfits has rescued the four abducted commuters, reportedly kidnapped along Tafida Imesi-Ile and Ilare/Esa-Odo road on 4th and 5th July, 2021 respectively.

“Upon a distress call that the victims were abducted, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode, psc, drafted a combined team of police Tactical Unit, JTF and other security outfits on a rescue mission of the abducted commuters.

“The victims were rescued just about 1505hrs on 6th July, 2021 along Ere-Ijesa, Ibokun road owing to the pressure mounted on the abductors by the police and other security agencies. No ransom was paid, but unfortunately we lost one of the local security operatives while one of the victims was injured during the exchange of gun fire with the kidnappers and responding to treatment.”the statement partly read.

The statement stated that the Commissioner of Police appealed to the good citizens of the state to report any suspected person(s) with bullet wounds to the police.

The public were also assured of their safety, stating that security measures had been put in place to forestall future occurrences.
