 Sad incident on Christmas Day as 10 die in motor accident, Kwara

The Federal Road Safety Corps said 10 persons lost their lives in a motor accident along the Idofian-Ilorin road in Kwara State on Christmas day.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin reported that 27 people were involved in the accident with 10 dead.

The Kwara Sector Commander, Jonathan Owoade, told NAN that the accident, which occurred near the Unilorin Sugar Research Institute, was caused by speed limit violation and wrong overtaking.

Owoade said, “It is another sad incident occurring on the Idofian-Ilorin road axis.

“The fatal accident involved two vehicles – a commercial Nissan Vanette bus and a private Honda Accord car.

“Twenty-seven people were involved, sadly 10 died, nine of them burnt beyond recognition, while 16 persons sustained various degrees of injuries. One other person was rescued unhurt,’’

According to the him, the injured persons were taken to the Kwara State General Hospital and the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), while some others were taken to Ile Anu Medical Centre at Idofian.

He added that the corpses have been deposited at UITH.

Owoade advised motorist to excercise patience while on the road and also avoid overspending to preserve their lives.
