Salah equals Vardy record to inspire Liverpool’s comeback win

Mohamed Salah equalled Jamie Vardy’s record of scoring or assisting in 15 consecutive Premier League matches to inspire Liverpool’s 3-1 comeback win against Newcastle United.

Newcastle took the lead on seven minutes when former Reds midfielder Jonjo Shelvey picked up Thiago’s clearance and hit a stunning 25-yard strike into the top corner.

Diogo Jota levelled for Liverpool on 21 minutes, burying the rebound after his initial header from Sadio Mane’s cross was brilliantly saved by Martin Dubravka.

Liverpool turned the match on its head four minutes later when Salah fired home his 15th goal of the season after Dubravka parried Mane’s shot.

Liverpool could have added further goals after the break but Dubravka denied both Mane and Jota in quick succession.

A record 2,000th top-flight win for the Reds was secured in style by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who took a touch before rifling an unstoppable rising shot from distance into the top corner.

Liverpool stay second but move one point behind leaders Manchester City on 40 points. Newcastle remain joint-bottom with Norwich on 10 points.
