Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo as the new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).

The appointment was announced on Wednesday by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.

Badejo, a professor of Guidance and Counselling, succeeds Professor Ibijoke Olatunji-Bello, whose five-year tenure as Vice-Chancellor has expired.

She holds a PhD and a Master of Education degree in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos.

Badejo was born on August 4, 1962, and has spent more than three decades in academia, with experience in teaching, research and university administration.

She has served in various academic and administrative positions at LASU, including as Dean of the Faculty of Education and Chairman of the Senate Curriculum Committee.

The new Vice-Chancellor is expected to assume office on September 20, 2026, for a single five-year term, following the end of Olatunji-Bello’s tenure on September 19.

Olatunji-Bello became LASU’s ninth substantive Vice-Chancellor in 2021 and is the second woman to have held the position.

Badejo will become the university’s 10th substantive Vice-Chancellor and will oversee the institution as it begins a new leadership phase.
