Sanwo-Olu expresses sadness at destruction following #EndSARS violence

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said it was painful seeing the level of destruction in the state following the #EndSARS protests.

He said this while addressing newsmen after visiting areas affected by the looting and vandalism that took place on Wednesday and Thursday.

Places the governor visited included: Palace of the Oba of Lagos, Ajeromi Ifelodun LGA, FRSC, VIO, Lekki Tollgate, BRT Bus Terminals, City Hall, malls, offices, banks, ATM, and so on.

The governor said he was left traumatized and nearly in tears by the massive destruction at some areas, saying “we have not seen this level of destruction before in the state.”

“This is not the Lagos that was handed over to me in May 2019, how did we get here, this was supposed to be a peaceful protest”, he added.

Sanwo-Olu said that moving forward, citizens must desist from instigating and inciting others to violence.

He said that “everywhere i went today, people say they want peace, we all want peace, we can not continue to lose our population and our monuments and infrastructure.”

The governor announced the easing of the 24-hour curfew, saying movements would be allowed from 6am to 8pm.

He said the process of clearing roads of all debris had begun with LAWMA workers set to work overnight to clean the roads.

“Lagos needs to heal and the healing has started,” Sanwo-Olu stated as part of his conclusion.
