Sanwo-Olu Mourns Fasoranti, Says Nigeria Has Lost a Respected Elder Statesman
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mourned the death of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, describing his passing as the end of an era.
Fasoranti, a prominent Yoruba elder statesman and educationist, died on Tuesday at the age of 100.
In a condolence message, Sanwo-Olu extended his sympathies to the deceased’s family, members of Afenifere and the people of Yorubaland.
The governor described Fasoranti as a committed statesman whose contributions to education, public service and the advancement of the Yoruba people would be remembered.
“Baba Fasoranti was a respected and passionate statesman whose contributions to education, leadership and public service remain indelible,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He also commended the late Afenifere leader for his commitment to justice, equity, true federalism and good governance, noting that he championed these causes for several decades.
Sanwo-Olu extended his condolences to Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the government and people of Ondo State, particularly the Akure Kingdom, as well as members of Afenifere and the Fasoranti family.
He said Fasoranti’s leadership of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation made significant contributions to the development of Yorubaland and Nigeria.
The governor prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant his family and the Yoruba people the strength to bear the loss.
