Popular Nigerian songstress, Simi, was among those who gave cash gifts to a woman, Blessing Aribisala, whose tweet appreciating her husband for buying a chicken for Christmas went viral.

She shared photos of her skinning the chicken and thanked her husband for blessing the family in the tweet, which got around 38,000 likes.

“My husband is the best husband in the whole universe. He brought this home this morning. First Christmas festival as Mrs. My one and only may God prosper your way and answer all your silent prayers as you always make me happy. Thank you very much, my darling husband,” she had tweeted from her handle @Adebless2020.

Blessing’s tweet had initially attracted derisive comments, with many mocking for fussing over a gift as small as a chicken.

However, Blessing hit back at critics in a later tweet, saying her decision to thank her husband was because he had struggled to buy a chicken even without getting paid at his security officer job.

She tweeted: “I guess you all don’t know where this is coming from. My husband is a security guard working on contract. He has been working and he hasn’t received any salary since 2016. If you don’t know, he made my day. So stop dragging.”

With time, Blessing received support from others on Twitter who praised her sense of gratitude and sincerity.

Shortly after, Simi announced that she donated N200,000 to Blessing, who acknowledged receipt.

Other Nigerians on Twitter also gifted the lady cash sums ranging from N200,000 to N5,000.

Twitter user @Valhalla_X0, also donated N100,000 and asked Blessing to ignore critics who hurled demeaning comments at her.

“God bless you and your loving Husband, and May God bless all those insecure idiots accordingly. I’m proud of your family and I’m going to support you and your husband with N100,000 tonight . Pay no heed to the naysayers and online bullies. Have a wonderful Christmas celebration,” he tweeted.

Speaking to the PUNCH, Blessing confessed to being surprised at the outpouring of support for her and promised to invest the money wisely.
