The Lagos State Police announced the arrest of seven suspected cultists at Agura in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The suspects, who allegedly belong to the Eiye Confraternity, were arrested on Saturday by security operatives from the Imota Police Division.

The suspects are Abolaji Arbayo, 21; Josiah Offem, 37; Oluwapelumi Oyeyinka 25; and Lamidi Taofeeq, 41.

The police also arrested one Rabiu Ganiyu, 25, who is reportedly the group’s driver; and Zainab Nurudeen, 20, who allegedly armoured the cultists.

Lagos State Police Spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made the announcement in a statement.

He said: “The suspected cultists went to attack officials of a Vigilante Group, popularly called Agbekoya, in the area to revenge the recent arrest or attack on one of their group members by the vigilante. They caused varying degrees of injury on the vigilante officials using machetes and guns.

“Items recovered from them included machetes and some charms, one green bus with registration number LAGOS APP600XA that was used by the suspects for their operations.”

Adejobi added that the State Commissioner for Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had earlier reiterated his non-tolerance for nefarious activities including cultism and hooliganism.
