A middle aged bricklayer, Ismail Omoyeni in Ode-Remo, Remo North local government area of Ogun state has committed suicide by hanging himself in his private toilet after he reportedly lost two wives within the space of one year.

The sad event occurred on Wednesday, December 8 at Ode-Remo Ogun-state.

The remains of Ismail was dangling on the rope as neighbours peep through the window to see how the youngman ended it all with suicide on a day he was celebrating the burial of his grandmother.

The last known event with late Ismail was that, his last wife died on December 4, 2021.

The late wife according to Ismail’s elder sister, Mrs Toyin Omoyeni was from the Igede tribe in Benue state.

she reportedly died during labour on December 4 and the resultant effect of the death put late Ismail in depression.

Late Ismail was in a similar situation about the same time last year, exactly December 5, when he lost his previous wife. “They said Ismaila’s wife is dead again, that she died while she was giving birth. I went to the hospital where the mother and the baby died.

“Surprisingly, the wife’s family had gone to report to the Police accusing the husband of the wife’s death. The wife’s family collected N150, 000 after they forced us to sell Ismaila’s motorcycle in order to carry their daughter home saying their daughter can’t sleep in the hospital dead. So we have given them N100, 000, to balance N50,000, so the family told us to go and pay for embalmment, buy coffin and pay the hospital bill.” She said.

Late Ismail singlehandedly bought the cow for his grandmother’s burial so, he was not having so much money at the time. Already depressed with the back to back deaths of his wives and baby, the money problems which led to sale of his bike was said to be the reason for Ismail’s deadly decision.

On that fateful day, Wednesday December 8, the family members continued with the burial ceremony albeit in a low-key leaving Ismail alone in his personally built 2-bedroom apartment. Around mid-day, his sister went to his house to comfort him and keep his company only to find him dangling on the ceiling right in the toilet.

The police from Ode-Remo Police division were called and they moved in. At the time our reporter got to the scene, the main door to the building has been locked by the police according information.

He was buried same day.
