A suspected armed robbery has been arrested by the Nigeria Police in Lagos State.

According to the Lagos State Police Command, the suspect, Olawale Samsudeen, a 27 years old man, was arrested at the Bode Thomas area of Lagos State on September 1, 2021 around 9.20pm.

He was arreated when he and two other members of the criminal gang attempted to rob a victim in his provisions shop at Eric Moore Close, Off Eric Moore Road, Bode Thomas, Surulere.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, in a statement on Thursday, said the victim raised the alarm to alert a police anti-crime patrol team on routine patrol in the area.

He said the patrol team in a swift response, raced to the scene and, with the assistance of members of the public, arrested the suspect while two others escaped on the gang’s operational motorcycle.

“Items recovered from the arrested suspect includ a locally-made pistol and three cartridges.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to be a member of an armed gang terrorising residents of Bode Thomas, Surulere and other parts of the State recently,” he said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that the case be transferred to the Command’s Special Squad for further investigation.

According to Ajisebutu, the CP, while commending the quick response of the patrol team of the Division, enjoined members of the public to have confidence in the police by always giving prompt and reliable information.
