Tinubu approves up to 80% salary increase for military personnel

President Bola Tinubu has approved a new salary structure for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, with pay increases ranging from 30 to 80 per cent across different ranks.

The new package, which takes effect from September 1, will benefit about 250,000 military personnel serving in the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force.

Under the approved structure, officers above the rank of colonel, including brigadier generals, major generals, lieutenant generals and generals, will receive a 30 per cent salary increase. Officers from colonel down to warrant officer will get a 50 per cent raise, while personnel from private to staff sergeant will enjoy an 80 per cent increase.

The Presidency said the salary review would raise the annual wage bill for the armed forces from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion, describing the move as part of efforts to improve troop welfare and enhance the country’s security architecture.

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the armed forces, saying improving the welfare of military personnel remains a key priority in addressing the nation’s security challenges.
