President Muhammadu Buhari, has assured former Minister of Finance and Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, of his staunch support in ensuring she gets the job of the Director-General of World Trade Organisation.

The President made this known in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, titled, “We’ll push, push until you win, President Buhari assures Okonjo-Iweala.”

According to the statement, the President made this promise while receiving Okonjo-Iweala in the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday.

He said that the former minister, who is in contesting against South Korea’s Yoo Myung-Hee for the job of DG of the trade organisation, deserves all support to get the job because of her diligence in serving Nigeria and the world.

The statement quoted the President saying, “I assure you that we will do all that we can to ensure that you emerge as the Director-General of WTO, not only because you are a Nigerian, but because you are a hardworking Nigerian. You deserve this,”

He also assured the former minister that he would reach out to world leaders for more support like he did for Dr Akinwunmi Adesina when he contested to become President of the African Development Bank.

Okonjo-Iweala was also quoted showing her appreciation to the President and his ministers for the support.

“I feel very proud of Nigeria. I am getting so much support from you, Mr President, Chief of Staff, Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Ministers of Industry, Trade and Investments. The ministers have been working around the clock to ensure that I succeed,” she said.
