2027: INEC sets October 9 for nationwide PVC collection
The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that nationwide collection of Permanent Voter Cards will begin on October 9, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Monday in Kaduna during the commission’s North-West zonal interactive meeting with staff and readiness assessment for the 2027 elections.
Amupitan said the recent Continuous Voter Registration exercise recorded more than 10.7 million new registrations across the country.
He said the commission was working to ensure that eligible voters could collect their PVCs ahead of the elections.
The INEC chairman also called for the removal of bottlenecks affecting PVC distribution at the local government level to prevent eligible voters from being disenfranchised.
He said the commission was also reviewing its electoral technology, including systems for voter verification and the transmission and management of election results.
Amupitan said INEC had adopted measures aimed at improving election logistics, including the early deployment of electoral materials, security coordination and training of ad hoc personnel.
The announcement comes as INEC intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027.
