The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticised President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The party’s Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Akin Akinwale, said Nigerians do not need political leaders who consider themselves too important to engage directly with the people.

Akinwale said the country needs leaders who understand the challenges facing ordinary Nigerians and are willing to communicate with them.

He argued that political leadership should be about accessibility, accountability and addressing the concerns of citizens rather than projecting an image of superiority.

The NDC official also took aim at the political establishment, saying Nigerians should look beyond familiar political figures when deciding who to support in the 2027 election.

According to him, the forthcoming election presents an opportunity for citizens to demand a different approach to governance.

The comments come as political parties and major political figures intensify their activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with the economy, leadership and the welfare of Nigerians expected to dominate the campaign.
