The World Trade Organisation (WTO) has said a meeting to consider the appointment of a new director general will hold on February 15.
The trade organisation said this in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

“The WTO’s General Council will hold a special meeting on 15 February at 15:00 Geneva time to consider the appointment of the next Director-General. The meeting will take place in virtual format,” the statement read.

Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is the sole candidate vying for the position of Director-general of the World Trade Organisation.

This is after South Korea’s candidate for the top post, Yoo Myung-hee, withdrew her candidacy.

If confirmed by consensus, Okonjo-Iweala, will be the first female WTO DG and the first African to head the organisation.
