The House of Representatives has directed the Department of State Security (DSS) to investigate the attack on Governor Samuel Ortom.
The state services were also urged to investigate the involvement of the Fulani National Movement (FUNAM).
The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Kpam Jimin Sokpo.
Sokpo in his motion cited a report in which FUNAM was claiming responsibility for the attack.
According to the lawmaker, the attack was an attempt to assassinate the governor for his stance on the farmers/herdsman clashes in the state.
He warned that the assassination of Ortom will lead to a state of anarchy.
It would be recalled that the governor was attacked on Saturday on his farm.
He said: “Their (attackers’) unequivocal intention and mission to kill the Governor, his collaborators and whoever is against the Fulani long term interest as a case of vengeance against an infidel.
“The assassination attempt on Ortom of Benue State is an invitation to anarchy and a glaring indication that the nation is drifting into a state of full-scale lawlessness.”
The motion was carried when it was put to vote.
