Four injured, eight-month-old baby rescued in Lagos multiple-car accident
An eight-month-old baby was miraculously saved uninjured on Thursday from a multiple-vehicle crash on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway at Otedola, near Tollgate.
Four people were severely injured in the incident.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) revealed that the early-morning collision included four vehicles: a Hydra truck with registration number APP 261 FA, an LT commercial bus marked EPE 574 YC, a Ford vehicle numbered GG 283 XQ, and an unregistered Mark flat-body truck.
Initial findings indicated that the four injured pedestrians, including a woman carrying the infant on her back, were attempting to cross the expressway when the speeding LT bus struck them.
The force of the impact reportedly triggered a chain of secondary collisions involving the other vehicles.
LASTMA officers deployed to the scene were able to rescue the infant, who was found alive and uninjured despite the severity of the crash.
The injured adults were stabilised on site before being transported to the Lagos State Accident & Emergency Centre near the Tollgate for immediate treatment.
Police officers from the Alausa Division were also present, securing the area and assisting emergency responders as they worked to manage the situation and ease traffic pressure on the busy expressway.
LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq said all the affected vehicles had been cleared from the road to prevent prolonged congestion and restore normal traffic flow.
The agency’s General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commiserated with the victims and wished them quick recovery.
He also cautioned pedestrians against crossing expressways, urging them to make use of pedestrian bridges and describing such risky crossings as both avoidable and potentially fatal.
