Messi reaches agreement to buy Spanish second-tier club Eldense
Lionel Messi has reached an agreement in principle to acquire Spanish second-tier club CD Eldense, according to reports from Spain.
The proposed deal would see the Argentine star acquire 100 per cent of the shares currently held by Colombian investment group TH Soluciones Group S.A.S., which took control of the club in 2025.
The transaction is still subject to approval from Spain’s High Council for Sports before it can be completed.
Eldense, based in Elda in Alicante, currently compete in Spain’s second division and have featured in the league in three of the last four seasons.
The club have struggled at the start of the current campaign, collecting two points from their opening four matches.
Their poor start led to the dismissal of manager Claudio Barragán on Sunday.
The proposed takeover would be Messi’s second investment in a Spanish football club this year. He acquired fifth-tier side UE Cornellà in April.
Messi’s move into club ownership comes while he remains an active player with Major League Soccer side Inter Miami.
If completed, the Eldense acquisition would further expand Messi’s involvement in football beyond his playing career.
