2027: INEC Introduces QR Codes to Help Lagos Voters Locate PVC Centres
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has introduced QR codes to help eligible voters locate designated Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection centres ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Ayobami Salami, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press briefing at the commission’s headquarters in Lagos.
Salami said the QR codes would be available on INEC’s official social media platforms and website, allowing voters to identify the centres where they could collect their cards.
He urged eligible voters to collect their PVCs promptly and verify their registration details ahead of the elections.
According to him, PVCs are available for residents who registered between August 25 and December 10, 2025, as well as those who registered between 2011 and 2022 but have yet to collect their cards.
However, he said PVCs for people who registered between January 5 and July 26, 2026, were not yet available. He added that the commission would announce when the cards were ready through its official communication channels.
The REC also said INEC was strengthening its preparations for the 2027 elections, including the procurement and testing of voter accreditation devices, improvements to election result transmission systems, and the recruitment and training of electoral personnel.
On electoral offences, Salami said the commission was collaborating with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, the National Electoral Integrity Unit and the Federal Ministry of Justice to tackle vote-buying and illegal campaign financing.
He urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct their activities peacefully and in accordance with the law.
Salami also cautioned against misinformation, disinformation and AI-generated content capable of misleading voters, urging media organisations to verify election-related information through official INEC channels before publication.
He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to improving voter access and ensuring credible elections in Lagos State.
