Agege stakeholders seek peace as Egunjobi, Yusuf urged to return to APC

Stakeholders in Orile-Agege and Agege Local Government Areas of Lagos State have appealed to former council chairman Ganiyu Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf to reconsider their decision to leave the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The appeal was made during a peace meeting held on Sunday in Orile-Agege ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting was attended by traditional rulers, religious leaders and political stakeholders, who called for dialogue and reconciliation to prevent tension in the community.

The Alaige of Orile-Agege, Oba Ambaliu Agbedeyi, said reports of possible violence prompted the meeting, stressing that peace and stability remained his priority.

Similarly, the Olu of Agege, Oba Oyedeji Kamila Ishiba, urged politicians and their supporters to avoid confrontation and work towards peace within the community.

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Orile-Agege Chapter, Apostle Babajide Ajibode, and the Chief Imam of Dopemu, Alhaji Olawale Sulaiman, also called for peaceful resolution of the disagreement.

Egunjobi, who recently moved from the APC to the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, said he was invited to the meeting by one of the clerics.

He said the dispute arose from the APC primary election, claiming that he won the exercise but was denied the party’s ticket.

Egunjobi said the situation should have been followed by reconciliation, adding that he and his supporters had considered legal action but were persuaded to maintain peace.

He also said the disagreement would not lead to violence and commended the organisers of the meeting for their intervention.

Egunjobi is contesting the Agege Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly on the APM platform, while Yusuf is contesting Agege Constituency II.

The duo recently left the APC and secured APM tickets for the 2027 Lagos Assembly elections.
