 Alcoholic drinks worth N200m destroyed in Kano

The Kano State Hisbah Board seized and destroyed around 1,975 bottles of beer worth N200 million on Sunday.

It was gathered that the incident occured followed a court order authorising the destruction of 20 trucks of alcoholic beverages.

Kano State Governor Abdullah Ganduje, who spoke during the destruction exercise at Kalebawa in Dawakin Tofa LGA, said consumption of alcohol and intoxicating drinks were banned under Islamic law.

“Even in Kano we have banned the consumption of beer in all parts of the state,” Ganduje, represented by his deputy Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, stated.

The governor further said to Hisbah Board: “My administration is proud of the way you discharge your duties. I urge all stakeholders to give you all the needed support to enable you succeed.”

Sheikh Harun Muhammad Ibn Sina, Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, revealed the worth of the destroyed beer to be over N200 million.

The Hisbah Board is a security outfit established to punish social acts that contravene Islamic law in Kano.
