A joint security operation allegedly carried out with the cooperation of the military has left three dead and two others in injured in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The raid, which happened on Sunday, was reportedly led by men of the military along with operatives from the police force and the Andoni Security Peace and Advisory Council, a paramilitary outfit.

Among the communities invaded during the security operation include Ajakajak, Ibot-Irem, Samanga, Dema, Oturia, and Otuafu.

Per eyewitness reports, the raid was meant to fish out some youths in the area suspected of involvement in criminal activities.

The men reportedly started shooting as they launched an attack on the communities where residents were preparing for church.

In the ensuing melee, three people from the Ajakajak community were killed while two others were injured.

Residents have called on the army and police to stop the incessant raiding of their communities, saying security operatives must work with locals to pinpoint the location of criminals.

Many have also fled the communities in a bid to avoid the constant raiding at the hands of security operatives.
