The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has urged the the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies to conduct their duties impartially in the forthcoming Edo Governorship Election, slated for Sept. 19.

Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, Edo State PDP Chairman, made the call on Sunday during a press briefing to assess the PDP’s campaign activities ahead of the election.

Aziegbemi said that Edo residents had showed complete support for the PDP candidate, Godwin Obaseki, during ward-to-ward campaigns conducted in over 192 wards in the state.

He urged INEC and the security agencies, who will be involved the election process, to execute their duties whilst maintaining their neutrality.

The Chairman stated that electorate deserved to exercise their franchise, adding that preventing a man from exercising his right is like “killing or enslaving him.”

He asked INEC and security agencies not subvert the will of the people, saying Edo people deserve free, fair, peaceful and credible elections.

Explaining that the party would consistently monitor the elections, Aziegbemi said the party would not hesitate to bring any individual or body found engaging in illegal activities during the election.

He said, “If you are caught doing the wrong thing, be assured that as a party that believes in and promotes the right for people to freely express their choice, we will be waiting and ensuring that law affects the fullest possible punishment.”
