Fortune must be smiling on evicted Big Brother Naija housemate, Erica, after a GoFundMe opened for her received over $14,000 in donations within hours of her getting disqualified from the show.

Erica, whose full names are Erica Ngozi Nlewedim, was a participant in the Big Brother Naija Season 5 reality TV show until her disqualification yesterday.

However, her fans, popularly called “Elites”, quickly set up a GoFundMe campaign for the reality TV star to “support her dreams.”

It was gathered that the campaign received over $9,000 in donations within three hours of her disqualification from the BBNaija show.

As at the time of writing this story, the campaign has received more than $14,000 in donations, which is close to five million naira.

Mixed reactions have trailed the GoFundMe campaign, with prominent activist, Deji Adeyanju, lambasting the organizers of the campaign.

Tweeting via his handle aadeyanjudeji, he said “They have opened a Go Fund Me for disqualified Big Brother house mate -Erica yet they insult those who hold Govt accountable. My generation is acting unaware of all the troubles & suffering in the country. It’s like we want to suffer for 600yrs.”

He made a follow-up tweet on Monday, saying “The Go Fund Me they opened for disqualified BBNaija housemate late last night is now close to $15k. LMAO. Which way Nigeria?”

Other social media users have criticized the donation drive, noting that it comes at a time when poverty is rife and the cost of living has risen to astronomical levels.
