Biafra agitators protest in Abuja, Anambra over Kanu’s trial

By Modupe Shodeinde

Agitators of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Monday held protests in Abuja and Anambra against the trail of Nnamdi Kanu.

It was learnt that in Abuja, IPOB members protested in front of the Federal High Court.

After the matter was adjourned, they gathered in front of the court, demanding to know their leader’s whereabouts.

The Nation reports that the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested some of the proscribed group’s members at the court premises.

Omoyele Sowore, Sahara Reporters publisher, and other youths were also arrested during the protest, which they said, was in solidarity with Kanu.

Sowore later disclosed that they were released hours later.

According to him, the protesters were dragged, harassed and beaten.

“They took us to the Federal Secretariat Police Station. I told them that they have no right to arrest me.

“I have a right to observe the trial of Nnamdi Kanu. They took our cards and deleted all recordings.”

In Anambra, commuters moving in and out of Onitsha were stranded following partial restriction of vehicular movement within major roads in the commercial city.

It was gathered that IPOB had, late on Sunday, sent out signals asking its members to enforce a sit-at-home protest in the South-East because of the case of Nnamdi Kanu, coming up on Monday in Abuja.

A source said, “We got the signal very late in Awka. So, we could not mobilise to protest in Awka as they are doing in Nnewi and Onitsha. That’s why noting is happening in Awka and environs.” the Punch quotes.

Businesses in Onitsha and Nnewi were in hold as major roads in the two areas were blocked.

Youths suspected to be members of IPOB made bonfire in most streets in Onitsha, also ordered vehicles entering the city to turn back.

Shops, markets and offices were under lock in Onitsha, while streets were deserted.
