 BREAKING: COVID-19, UNILAG orders closure of hostels, confirms reports of outbreak

The University of Lagos, UNILAG, on Wednesday, has ordered vacation and indefinite closure of all hostels in the institution to check the spread of COVID-19 on campus.

Earlier this week, there have been reports of COVID-19 cases among students of the varsity which the school management has neither confirmed nor refuted.

However, the school management on Wednesday, held an emergency meeting to discuss vacation of halls of residence by students and resumption of virtual learning.

Subsequently, in a message sent to  students by the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Ademola Adeleke, it was made known that hostels would be locked indefinitely, with lectures holding virtually.

The message was titled “Immediate Closure of All Hostels to Check the Spread of COVID-19 on Campus”

It reads: “To check the spread of Covid-19 on campus, the University Senate has directed that all students vacate the halls of residence latest by 12.00 noon on Thursday 15 July 2021.

“No access will be granted to any student after 12.00 noon on 15 July. The hostels will be locked indefinitely therefore students are advised to move all their personal effects at once.

“Lectures for the rest of the semester will be delivered virtually with effect from 26th July 2021.”
