Court grants bail to six arrested in Abuja over #EndSARS protests

By Emmanuel Awosika

A Wuse Magistrate Court, on Wednesday, granted bail to six #EndSARS protesters who were arrested while protesting at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

The defendants are Oluwatosin Adeniyi, Davo Chomo, Paul Akinwumi, Yasiru Bashir., Abdulsalam Zuberu, and Kabiru Gasali.

The protesters had been in custody since they entered a Not Guilty plea during their first court appearance shortly after their arrest on November 6. The court had denied their request for bail, asking that they remain in custody.

The court finally granted the six protesters bail on Wednesday following an application by the defence counsel, Tope Akinyode.

The Presiding Magistrate, Abdurazak Eneye, asked each defendant to pay N50,000 and provide a surety as part of their bail requirements.

The #EndSARS protesters had landed in hot water after they were arrested by security operatives for staging a demonstration against police brutality at National Assembly grounds.

The court adjourned their trial till January 25, 2021.
