 Courts Orders Reinstatement Of Suspended Assembly Members In Ondo

A State High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo on Friday has reversed the suspension of four members of the State House of Assembly.

The four lawmakers are namely, Mrs. Favour Tomomowo; Mr Wale Williams; Tomide Akinribido; and Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ogundeji Iroju.

All four had been suspended by Speaker, er, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun, following their refusal to assent to the impeachment of Deputy Governor, Mr Agboola Ajayi, who had left the All Progressives Congress for the Peoples Democratic Party in the June.

The lawmakers had appealed their suspension at the Ondo State High Court through their lawyer, Banjo Ayenakin.

The President of the court, Justice Ademola Bola quashed the suspension, declaring it “null and void and of no consequence whatsoever.”

In his submission, the Justice said the Speaker had no right to suspend the lawmakers, making the action illegal.

He called for the reinstatement of the lawmakers to their position and also asked N5m to be paid to them for damages.
