 COVID-19: Lagos Mainland, Mushin, Eti-Osa LGAs have highest cases in Lagos

As Lagos remain the epicentre of COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria with 1,667 cases, three Local Government Areas, Eti-Osa, Lagos Mainland and Mushin top the coronavirus chart in the State.

This is according to the COVID-19 Situation Report released via Twitter by the state Health Commissioner, Prof Akin Abayomi, on Friday.

The report showed that all the 20 LGAs in the state had reported cases of the infection with Lagos Mainland, Eti-Osa, and Mushin having 541, 200, and 138 cases respectively as of Friday afternoon.

Ikeja had 73 infections while Alimosho had 69 cases followed by Kosofe with 59 cases and Apapa with 55 cases.

Somolu reported 40 cases, Amuwo-Odofin – 35, Oshodi-Isolo – 34, Surulere – 31, Lagos Island – 30, Ibeju-Lekki – 26, Ajeromi-Ifelodun – 18, Agege – 13, Ifako-Ijaiye – 12, Ikorodu – 8, Epe – 8, Badagry  – 5 and Ojo – 4.

The commissioner said 406 patients have been discharged while 33 deaths have been recorded so far.

He said, “Isolation centres are situated at Gbagada Hospital; Lagos University Teaching Hospital; Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba; Onikan Stadium Centre; Landmark Centre, Lekki Centre; and First Cardiology. Agidingbi Isolation centre is dedicated to frontline health personnel. Isolation facilities to be set up in Badagry and Epe.

“Overall capacity utilisation of isolation centres is 45% as of now. The state is using this data to plan its strategies and where to place increased surveillance and isolation capacity.”

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Friday night announced 176 new cases in Lagos bringing the total infections in the state to 1667.
