 Cultists Arrested During Initiation In Calabar

Cross Rivers State Police have confirmed the arrest of 11 suspected cultists during an initiation ceremony at Bishop Moynag Avenue, State Housing, Calabar.

According to the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, the suspects arrested included two males and nine males.

Ugbo indicated the cultists had been arrested on Friday by security agents following intelligence from the office of the State Commissioner of Police, Abdulkadir Jimoh.

She said, “On August 14, 2020, a team of SARS operatives and men from the Federal Housing Police Division through intelligence from the Commissioner of Police swung into action and arrested 11 suspected cultists during initiation.

“Items recovered from them include talking drum, wooden guns, two kegs of concoction and a bottle of Gordon drink.

“The suspects confessed to the crime. The investigation is still ongoing to unravel other cult members.

“To this end, the Commissioner of Police once again warned all members of any cult groups or anyone having intention to engage in any cult-related activities to desist from such.”

The police spokeswoman said the arrest was part of the “Operation Murky Waters” conducted by the Rivers State Police to neutralize all forms of criminal activity in the state.

She also advised law-abiding residents of Cross Rivers State to go about their business without fear, adding that the police was determined to keep the people safe.
