 Dancer Kaffy earns honorary doctorate degree

Dancer Kafayat Shafau-Ameh, popularly called Kaffy, has received a honorary doctorate degree from Escae University, a Beninoise academic institution.

The university conferred the doctorate on Kaffy at a ceremony in Lagos on Thursday.

According to the Registrar of Escae University, Matthew Godwin Mario, the award was to recognise Kaffy’s contributions to the creative and entertainment industry in Africa.

“The university is giving this award to you for your outstanding contribution in the areas of youth development, empowerment, entertainment, and philanthropy. Your leadership qualities and your profundity of thoughts have placed you on a pedestal above all your equals,” he said in his speech.

The award comes after Kaffy announced securing a deal with Avon HMO to provide medical care for young dancers.

In her acceptance speech, the dancer who called the award “icing on the cake”, said it means a lot to her, adding that it was proof that “there is no limit to how far him can go.”

She said: “Getting this doctorate degree came after the institution watched the consistency of the brand and how it has empowered people young people in the creative industry. Coming all the way from another country, this means a lot to me. This is also an opportunity for me to inspire young people that there is no limit to how far you can go.”

The dancer also announced that her book, titled Alajoota, was available for pre-order and would be released this month.

“ALÁJÒÓTÀ is an insight into how I have evolved and literarily went through the furnace. When people see me, they do not see what I have been through, this book details my travails with poverty, broken home, and homelessness,” she said of the book.
