Danfo Drivers Protest On Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Leave Dozens Of Travellers Stranded

By Emmanuel Awosika

Several travellers were left stranded this afternoon at the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway after commercial buses, known as Danfos, ceased operations.

Reportedly, a clash had earlier occurred between operatives of the Lagos State Task Force and some hoodlums suspected to be transport workers in the Abule-Egba and Ijaiye areas of Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos State.

It was gathered that the Task Force operatives, who were on enforcement duty in the area, had been attacked by some unidentified hoodlums.

Thereafter, the Task Force operatives had opened fire on the assailants and gunned down two among them.

Upon witnessing the melee, traders and travellers fled the scene for fear of their lives.

The leader of the Task Force, Yinka Egbeyemi, corroborated reports of the incident. However, he denied reports that the operatives had shot down any of the hoodlums.

He said, “Some hoodlums came in three buses to attack some of our men and we faced them.

“We got the information from the National Union of Road Transport Workers and our men confronted the hoodlums.

“We have also arrested them and they are in our custody.”

After the incident, danfo drivers refused to operate, forcing many of the travellers to start trekking to their destinations.

Some of these travellers expressed their displeasure at the fighting between the transport workers, calling on both parties to settle their differences.
