 El-Rufai calls #EndSARS violence act of self-destruction

By Emmanuel Awosika

Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has condemned the attack on public facilities in Lagos by hoodlums who infiltrated the #EndSARS protests.

He said Lagos, which contributed a great deal to the country’s economy, did not deserve to suffer such pain.

El-Rufai said at the State House in Marina, Lagos during his visit to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The governor described the destruction of facilities as an act of ‘self-destruction’, saying the youths responsible would feel the effects of their actions.

His words: “I have spent time to see some of the pictures of the destruction done on public property in Lagos and I nearly shed tears. Anyone who cares about development and progress will cry after seeing what has been done to public facilities and people’s investment that provided jobs to youths.

“While expressing anger on police brutality may be right, destroying public properties, which will have to be rebuilt using money that is needed to invest in other public infrastructure, under the guise of protest, is nothing but self-destruction. The government of Lagos and the Federal Government will have to re-invest scarce resources that could have been used for other things to rebuild the vandalised facilities.”

On his part, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reiterated his government’s commitment to cushioning the effects of the destruction on businesses and encouraging commencement of economic activities in the state.
