The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has approved the posting of DCP Tunji Disu as the new Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team.

This came as a result of the suspension of the former IRT head, Abba Kyari, who is under investigation for alleged collusion in a $1.1m Internet fraud perpetrated by a notorious fraudster, Abass Ramon, commonly known as Hushpuppi.

A statement issued on Monday by the police spokesman, Frank Mba, titled, ‘IGP appoints DCP Tunji Disu as Head, Police Intelligence Response Team,’ said the posting was with immediate effect.

The statement said, “The IG charged the new head of the IRT to demonstrate his professional competence in his leadership of the unit.

“He also assured citizens that the IRT will remain focused in the discharge of its duties in line with national statutes and international best practices.”

DCP Tunji Disu, a former Commander of the Rapid Response Squad Lagos State, was the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Panel probing Kyari’s alleged involvement in a $1.1 million fraud is expected to submit its findings to the IG before the end of August.

The four-man panel, which was inaugurated on Saturday, is headed by the Deputy Inspector -General of Police in-charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Joseph Egbunike.
