The Federal Government has declared Friday December 25, 2020 (Friday); December 28, 2020 (Monday), and January 1, 2021 (Friday) as public holidays to celebrate Christmas, Boxing Day, and the New Year.

Minister for Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, made the announcement in a statement signed by his Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shuaib Belgore.

Aregbesola congratulated both all Christians and Nigerians at home and in the diaspora over the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

He, however, urged Christians to remember to display the same qualities as Jesus Christ in their day-to-day living.

He said, “We must emulate the life of humility, service, compassion, patience, peace and righteousness that the birth and Ministry of Jesus Christ signified, that will be the best way to know Christ and celebrate his birth.”

The Minister said the Federal Government was commited to restoring peace and order in the country, calling on citizens to support the fight against insurgency and banditry in the country by providing useful intelligence.

He also advised Nigerians to comply with COVID-19 guidelines during and after the festivities to prevent a second wave of the virus in the country.

Expressing enthusiasm that the year 2021 would be a better one for the country, Aregbesola urged Nigerians to pray for the nation during this period.

The Minister then wished all Nigerians home and abroad a Happy Christmas and Happy New Year.
