Freed Oyo Teacher Recounts 56 Days in Captivity

One of the teachers rescued after spending 56 days in captivity following the abduction of pupils and school staff in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State has recounted the ordeal, saying the victims were released by their abductors before they were later escorted to safety by security personnel.

The teacher, Zacchaeus Olatunde, said the captives were blindfolded throughout their time in captivity and had no idea where they were being held.

According to him, the abductors eventually informed them they were free and directed them out of the camp. He said the group trekked for about an hour before they were transported on motorcycles to an area near a village, where they later met government officials and security personnel.

Olatunde also described the harsh conditions they endured, including restrictions on movement and worship, noting that the captives relied on one another for support throughout the ordeal.

The teacher and other victims were among those abducted during attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area earlier this year.

They have since reunited with their families, while security agencies continue investigations into the incident.
