By Emmanuel Awosika

The Federal Safety Commission (FRSC) is mulling the establishment of additional registration centres in Lagos to hasten issuance of drivers license licenses and registration of number plates.

This was made known by the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC) Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, while visiting Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, over the weeken.

According to Oyeyemi, Lagos State presently accounts for 40 per cent of the country’s vehicular density and needs increased registration of number plates and drivers licenses.

The FRSC boss, however, stated the Lagos State Government would have to make an official request before it could start making plans.

Explaining the reason for his visit, Oyeyemi said it was to renew the cooperation between the FRSC and the government, particularly after the #EndSARS protests that rocked the state.

He said: “I was on full inspection last week but we have the worst scenario in Lagos State where our crew vehicles with driver’s license items and our commands were vandalized and some were burnt.

‘’We have to resume work fully and the government will support us, His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has also promised us of partnership so that the traffic management in Lagos cannot just be left like this, we must all worked together and we spoke about tankers, frequent falling of tankers, articulated vehicles breaking down creating crisis and talked about the need for safety.”
