A gas explosion has left a woman agonizing the loss of N200, 000 around Ayepe road, Sagamu, Ogun state. The middle-aged woman, simply identified as Iya Oni Fufu had lost her entire shop where she makes and sells Fufu.

According to the story as narrated by an eye witness, the woman had closed shop on Thursday November 25 after preparing her Fufu on that night.

She closed the shop as usual and poured water on the firewood which she used to make the fire for Fufu making. “She has a gas cylinder inside the shop. She prepares Fufu normally in the evening so, after she finished at night, she actually thought she has put out the fire by pouring water. But, the fire was not completely put out.”

The anonymous eye witness told us the fire reignited leading to the gas cylinder explosion which wrecked the havoc. “There are some materials very close to that place where the unquenched fire must have contacted each other. So this contact started the whole damage, it started somehow, getting to a small cooking gas usually used for cooking daily meals.”

According to him, there are plastic and rubber materials which aided the re-ignition of the fire which caused the small gas cylinder to explode.”

“That was how the whole issue started and before we get to know it, the fire has gone beyond control and everyone started running helter-skelter, bringing out water, before you know it, it has gotten into the second shop which is a milling shop and later got to the third shop which is occupied by a tailor.”
